The management team at Guthrie County State Bank (GCSB) was surprised to find the perfect fit for the credit analyst position right at home. Chris Carlson, a resident of Guthrie Center since 2001, brings an almost 15-year career of progressive finance and credit analysis experience to GCSB after working for a national bank with a large office in Des Moines.
A native of West Point, NE, Chris started his career with Wells Fargo in Sioux Falls, SD, after graduating with honors from Buena Vista University. He transferred to the Des Moines office for a promotion and to move to his wife Jamie’s hometown of Guthrie Center. The next 14 years saw Chris move through the ranks gaining experience primarily in agricultural and commercial real estate financing, most recently as assistant vice president and portfolio manager.
“We feel fortunate to be able to hire someone with Chris’ level of experience in ag and commercial credit analysis and finance,” said Mike Underwood, president and chief executive officer, GCSB. “The fact that he already lives and raises his family here in Guthrie County is a bonus.”
Now that he’s not commuting to Des Moines daily, Chris is adjusting to having an additional two and one-half hours in his day to spend with his wife and three children who attend Guthrie Center Community Schools. He looks forward to becoming more connected to the Guthrie County community now that his commute is much shorter.
“Guthrie County State Bank is an independent, secure and growing organization,” said Chris. “The timing and opportunity to join the team was perfect and I look forward to putting my experience to work for our ag and commercial customers.”
