Getting to Know Doreen
Doreen Johnson joined Guthrie County State Bank in 2025 as a Universal Banker at our Panora branch, bringing with her a diverse background that includes work as a business consultant, corporate leader, financial planner— and even a band director. With a passion for service and a deep appreciation for community, she saw GCSB as a chance to build new relationships while providing valuable support to the people around her.
Banking with Heart
What Doreen enjoys most about her role is helping people receive the quality service they expect and deserve. Whether she’s assisting a customer in the branch or sharing a kind word with a neighbor, Doreen brings a thoughtful presence to every interaction.
Life Outside the Branch
Doreen and her husband, Bud, live just east of Lake Panorama, where they share their home with their cat, Ginger, and their dog, Noah. Together, they cherish time spent with their four children and five grandchildren.
When she’s not helping GCSB patrons, Doreen loves visiting state parks, exploring new restaurants, gardening, and seeking out historic homes and sites. One of her favorite ways to unwind is playing improvisational meditation music. She also enjoys traveling, and shared one of her favorite travel memories: during a retreat in Denmark near a bird sanctuary, she fell in love with swans. Thinking of that experience still brings her joy.
When asked who she’d most like to have dinner with, Doreen named Viktor Frankl. “He is a shining example of how people can live through tragedy and inspire others as they create their own meaning and fulfillment,” she said.
