Fraud Friday: Student Loan Scams

Jun 27, 2025 | Featured, Fraud Friday, General News

Student loans are usually the last thing you want to think about. That’s why there are scams floating around that promise to take care of those student loans for you – for a price.

Messaging in student loan scams can include:

  • Management Help – Scammers offer help managing your student loans and will charge you a fee for doing so. Even if they do end up helping you (they likely won’t), remember that you can always get free help at StudentAid.gov.
  • Easy Loan Access – Don’t fall for communications promising special access to your student loans. Keep in mind that you can always access your loan information by logging in to gov. If your loans are private, go straight to your loan servicer for help.
  • Information Requests – Never give out your FSA ID or other account information to anyone. Be wary of fake government seals or logos, even if they look official.
